Thanks to everyone who came to the May shows of the The International Swingers "Gun Control Tour". The band had a blast playing a bunch of newly written and recorded songs, but even better the fans were digging the new tunes too and yelling for more. San Francisco was the final show of the May gigs, after Phoenix, Vegas, Sacramento and a handful of L.A shows, that included three separate performances in one whirlwind day.
The International Swingers played to a packed house with a special one off show at London's Lexington on July 19th. The super enthusiastic crowd comprised mainly of fans who had won tickets from our FaceBook site. Here are a few choice snippets from the many on-line and press reviews;
"It was a revved up night of no-nonsense, fast and furious rock 'n' roll.
They have an instantly recognizable tone that's straight out of the 80s rock and roll scene. The best was probably 'FBI' and 'Gun Control'. Both were really rather good indeed: punching guitars steaming along on a formidable rhythm and controversial, hard hitting lyrics, entrenched in old school rock and roll but with modern political subjects drilled into the crowd. Played very well, it was interesting to hear that politicized but accessible tone return and deal with subjects that more modern music is far more aggressive about.
Burke's insane, whirlwind drumming was a feature of the gig. If there's anyone that hits a harder snare than this man I'm not sure I want to be there.
James Stevenson's lead guitar bit and snarled all night and the crowd lapped up the poses and shapes from one of the originals.
Glen combed his hair back - something I've only ever seen in films or on TV... even the smallest motion like this made me feel like I was a teen reliving the punk-rock era.
Gary Twinn is a very convincing front man - a great vocal delivery, on occasion sounding a little Iggy pop-like. He easily held centre stage, looked like he meant business and smashed out some vibrant supporting guitar as well.
What is more welcome though are the band's newer compositions, scattered between the covers and career retrospective tracks. 'FBI', 'Live Wire' and 'Gun Control' are all highly impressive, and an early indication that there's a damn good album to come out of these guys if they so choose."
